LOST season 6 epilogue – New Man in Charge

The 12 minute epilogue to season 6, outlining Hurley’s and Ben’s time on The Island. @marawlings’ link broke halfway through, so I found this version, complete with Italian subtitles, downloaded it and re-uploaded it in the hope that it doesn’t get taken down as quickly as it would on Youtube *fingers crossed*

Watch for:

  • Ben and Hurley
  • Food drops
  • Hurley Bird
  • Polar bears
  • Room 23
  • Waaaaaaaalt

I expected more, but, at least we saw ol’ Bug Eyes one more time. Long live LOST.

Good ol’ Posterous.Heh, I was almost expecting Damon and Carlton to be those two employees. I was more excited by the Hurley Bird than anything else Q_Q

  2. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Ben, Hurley and Walt spin-off you say?Who knows, maybe in 10 years, if they haven’t gone on to bigger and better things!

  3. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Haha. It was definitely tongue-in-cheek, but I think what disappointed me, relatively, was the description I’d heard of it before I saw it, which was something like "Ben and Hurley’s time on The Island leading up to the series finale", so I was expecting a bit more.

Ha!! I think it’s great how they answered what a lot of ppl thought were the most "important" questions in a mere 12 minutes. This was the greatest thing I’ve seen since… well…. LOST!!! – Thank you!!!

  5. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

I think anyone that watched it hoping for answers to "important" questions would’ve just been more disappointed :OAnd anyone that did actually follow the show closely probably already had the "answers" that were shown anyway.I just wanted to see more of them dying ~_~

  6. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Oh snap, you’re right, I could totally see Ben doing that! In a light hearted way, of course.Yeh, they screwed up Walt. I guess they were hinting that he would be Ben and Hurley’s successor?

  7. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Hmm, don’t think there was much I felt remained unanswered about Christian, but the cabin, yeh, quite the random. Horace building it for his wife and then Jacob and MiB taking over it or being imprisoned there. Oh the memories. Brain. Hurting.

  8. Unknown's avatar Anonymous says:

Yep…just like I predicted. A low-budget info-dump designed as damage control.Oh wait, they didn’t actually give us any information. Just more of the pathetic, insulting nonsense that the finale was filled with, and just like the finale, it answered nothing of consequence. Are Damon and Carlton really so delusional as to think that I give a flying **** that a couple of obsolete Dharma employees got severance pay? I’m more sorry than ever that I wasted 6 years of my life on this show…and I hate myself for holding out any hope that these 12 minutes could somehow atone for the atrocious, insulting finale.

  9. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Of course you predicted it, Eloise! Is that actually your name? o_o Freaky coincidence if so.I absolutely loved the finale [http://c0up.posterous.com/lost-the-end-spoilers-duh] but this was just a light hearted "bonus" for the DVD. Damon and Carlton had no involvement with it, AFAIK.

  10. Unknown's avatar dj yorkie says:

i enjoyed this little bonus, but it just felt too…….short!i would have loved to see more of ben and hurley with their banter, maybe on the island. i have been looking forward to seeing this for the last few months since i heard about it. was actually thinking of buying the DVD set just for this scene, and to be honest, glad i didnt. would have been on a bit of a downer if i had spent all that money for this.yes, it answered questions i wasnt really bothered about.yes, it was nice to have this little bonus.yes, the finale was great, and left pretty much everything answered that needed answering.but now i have seen this epilogue, i just feel gutted that there is now going to be no more fresh LOST for me to watch.

I thought this was great. Thought the Pierre Chang reference to "having to use aliases in the future" was hilarious, since only once (with Hurley at the Orchid) was there ever any question as to why Chang used so many different names. Also the reference to the electromagnetic radiation being harmful to the gestation process of the bears evidently is connected to why women couldn’t give birth on the island. One of my few gripes about the show and characters was how Walt pretty much disappeared after all the buildup of how "special" he was. So it was cool to see him being brought back into the fold and gave some closure to that. The only complaint I have about this snippet is now I’m even more disappointed that it’s over. Best show ever. Period!!

  12. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

"yes, it answered questions I wasn’t really bothered about.yes, it was nice to have this little bonus.yes, the finale was great, and left pretty much everything answered that needed answering."My sentiments EXACTLY, dj yorkie, and buying the DVD for just this would have been pretty disappointing.@Mark: I still feel the Walt inclusion was a bit of a cop out, but, better than nothing I guess. I would love it Damon and Carlton gave us a brief description of what they saw Walt’s role being in the greater scheme of things if he hadn’t gone and become gigantic. Likewise with Mr. Eko’s premature departure.

  13. Unknown's avatar Mark says:

c0up, I think (by design or not) the show was never meant to answer every question. Kind of goes with the show’s standard operating procedure to leave lots of things open ended, deliberately unanswered, or impossible to answer. But yes it would have been interesting to know if there was a greater plan for Walt. As for Eko, it’s too bad the actor wanted off the show as I think his character was quite interesting. With his death I never completely figured out why the smoke monster wanted him to repent and then killed him when he wouldn’t. The monster had underlying motives for wanting Jacob’s candidates to die but not sure what its interest in Eko was. So much of this show’s story and its characters was about choices and consequence…and however ambiguous it was, Eko’s death fit this theme very well. It could also be that they just had to figure out a way to kill him off the show, I suppose?

  14. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Oh yeh, I came out the finale with every question *I* had being answered, and especially listening to the podcasts they used to do, you kinda expected that it was going to go down that path of character resolution, as opposed to all the mysteries of The Island being solved.Re: Eko, I think you’re right in terms of him not admitting / atoning for his sins to Smokey, and being The Island judge, jury and executioner, Smokey sent him on his way, but who knows how it could’ve turned out.Dammit, now I’m reading Lostpedia again!

  15. Unknown's avatar Wedsny says:

Liked it alot, wanted more. Glad to see Walt’s story wrapped up. Here’s my thoughts on Jacob’s cabin. It was meant to be the place the others and particularly Richard communicated with Jacob. The Ash was meant ro keep smokey out, but at some point the circle of ash was broken and Smokey began using the cabin to impersonate Jacob, or appear as Christian and others to get people on his side and do his dirty work.

  16. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

The only thing I didn’t quite get was how it kept hopping around The Island; the rest was pretty much as you described, but really, if that was a burning question for someone at the end of LOST, they clearly watched it in a different context to me.Although, now that you mention it, didn’t Jacob always live in the statue? I mean, when Richard first met him, it was in the statue, and I know that Ilana went there, so I guess there was some period of time he spent there, or she was looking specifically for MiB? *sigh*

  17. Unknown's avatar el Baron says:

Lost still isn’t as good as Twin Peaks. And at least now we can surmise that Hurley’s reign as Lord of the Island lasted long enough for Ben to get tired of hearing him sob about Jack being dead in the woods when they found him. Kinda lame, but what do you expect from Lost?

  18. Unknown's avatar Mark says:

@c0up:Yeah, ultimately the show answered my own questions, the ones that really mattered, although I admit I had to watch the finale several times and rewatch a lot of old episodes (I admit I have actually watched each episode at least twice through) before I was able to fully digest and appreciate what had occurred. Five years ago when I for the first time watched the first season, I recall raving in particular about the character development being the best I had ever seen in a TV show.Ultimately, the show was about the characters and about their redemption. The mythology was important yet remained peripheral in the greater scheme We were asked from the very outset of the show to accept mysticism and supernatural phenomena by having to believe they could have survived a plane disintegrating at cruising altitude and the resulting impact, not to mention the existance of a "smoke monster" and many other such things, so in the end I don’t have a problem not getting a specific explanation of why turning off the light made MIB human again or why MIB and Jacob (and others for that matter) felt bound by some unexplained "rules" (such as, MIB can’t kill Jacob but someone else can on his behalf, Jacob is immortal but could be killed nonetheless, why detonating the hydrogen bomb sent Sawyer and co. back to 2007 and didn’t otherwise blow up the island and the Dharma folks who apparently kept on living until Ben exterminated them, etc. etc.). That stuff was not meant to be answered I think and I don’t think the writers ever really intended to answer it. In the end, even if people didn’t appreciate the sideways "purgatory" tangent, that paradigm could be viewed almost separate from the island, real life timeline, which was what actually happened to the characters in their time alive. I notice most people tend to either love the finale or absolutely hate it. Many of those who hate it can’t seem to articulate their complaints beyond that they didn’t get the answers they wanted. Honestly I think a lot of these people are similar to the ones who were outraged because Kate and Sawyer didn’t end up together, etc. Clearly this was a show where you could not have hopes and expectations about any sort of outcome because it would inevitably lead to despair- which is remarkably similar to…life itself. And that is what is brilliant about it: this is what you want, this is what you get. I’m 40 years old and in the past 20 years I have watched almost zero television because mainly, I think TV sucks in general. I spend a lot of time outside in the mountains and don’t like mass media. So Lost is honestly the only show I have ever watched as an adult and the only one that I actually had an ongoing thought to make sure to see it. My wife and I never missed an episode and we still talk about it and what it meant. I think this is the mark of a successful program in that it has generated in its viewers a discussion that will continue for many years to come. Finally I think it is pretty funny that people who hate the show still seem to keep going out of their way to absorb all things Lost, including the "New Man in Charge" video, then proclaim how it sucked, etc. Even they are still in the web. Ha.

  19. Unknown's avatar Jason says:

It looks like they drive on the left ("wrong") side of the road for Santa Rosa area. They say they are going home. They are going to England to do a spin-off.

  20. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Wow, thanks for all the comments, tweets and shares, guys!@Mark: Epic reply o_o I totally agree, and I’ve seen every episode twice too! I think the way I ended the post on the finale still sums up my feelings about the show:"There will never be as much theorising, speculation, love, dedication or hate directed towards a show. There will never be another television show like LOST."I thought it would be fun to just blog about the first episode of this season, and there ended up being a post for every episode, and more often than not, they got lengthier and found an audience. It’s absolutely amazing that months after the finale, a light-hearted 12 min video can still generate so much discussion and interest, and it is definitely a testament to the show.So I wonder how long ABC / Disney will wait ’til they reboot it in some form…

  21. Unknown's avatar Brent says:

That was pretty sweet. Few nice little tid bits. Left me with one burning question though. Why was Hurley wearing black and not white?

  22. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

    @Brent: Didn’t notice that! :O Hurley is evil!@Bill: Wait, so you’ve watched…. 25 + (25 + 24) + (25 + 24 + 23) + (25 + 24 + 23 + 14) + (25 + 24 + 23 + 14 + 17) + (25 + 24 + 23 + 14 + 17 + 18) … 456 episodes of LOST?! Or have I completely misread that? O_O

  23. Unknown's avatar jukap says:

Awesome stuff – just wish there was more. Lost is like a psychoactive drug, you don’t always need to know why it works so well (though sometimes i research scrips for fun), but it’s best to just sit back and enjoy the ride while it blows your mind!

  24. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

@jukap It’s almost like comfort food for me, seeing those characters on screen who I’ve grown up with for a quarter of my life!@xxx, @annie There’ll be a spin-off in some way, it’s just when, I guess. I think that Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson were pitching a show together to networks!@Brandon Interesting point. Walt not being dead means that it wasn’t Smokey taking on his form, so I guess he somehow projected himself? I mean, the kid sure knew how to kill birds. Reading Lostpedia now, and I never realised Walt was in Room 23 O_O And I hadn’t seen this ‘Room 23’ mobisode either http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Room_23_(mobisode)

  25. Unknown's avatar Disappoint says:

This was a total wast of my time. It answered NONE of my questions at all. I know they can’t make everyone happy, but what was the point of this?

  26. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Unfortunate that you viewed it in the context of providing answers. If they didn’t do it in six seasons, they sure as hell weren’t going to do it on a 12 minute epilogue! It was a light hearted bonus featurette on a DVD, and I don’t think they pitched it as any different.

  27. Unknown's avatar BigOne says:

Ahh well I had figured that Darmaha brought the Polar Bears that was kind of answered in season 2 or 3 when Kate and Sawyer played love nest. In the Bear cages. But was nice to know what happen to Walt.

  28. Unknown's avatar Ty4815162342 says:

@C0uP There is nothing weird about watching 456 episodes of Lost, i have watched every episode at least 5 times so that amounts to over 700 episodes!! …and i’m pretty sure i’m not the only one!!! @BrentAnd since there is no more MIB or Jacob, is there any need to have 2 sides still?? …It was a game between 2 brothers, but it is has ended now… and i don’t think Hurley is one to make ememies in a hurry!!

  29. Unknown's avatar c0uP says:

Yeh, I’m definitely at the low end of the obsessed scale when it comes to LOST, which is pretty disturbing O_OGood point re: not needing 2 sides any longer!
