LOST – Happily Ever After [spoilers, duh]

Thoughts:

  • So, Desmond is apparently surviving catastrophic electromagnetic event guy. Widmore needs to know if he can do it again, because it looks like there will be one more gigantic electromagnetic explosion on The Island, with Desmond having to make the sacrifice [stay on The Island and cause said explosion while everyone else is ferried via sub to The Hydra?] that Widmore spoke of
  • What exactly did that test do to Desmond? Remove him from his consciousness?
  • Written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Of course it was. Clearly they get dibs on Desmond episodes
  • Was that painting with the black and white scales always there in Widmore’s office o_O ?
  • “Consciousness-altering love”
  • How the hell does Charlie know to “show” Desmond? Did he try and re-create that Looking Glass event, which triggered his memory?
  • WHAT was with that look Eloise gave Desmond when she first saw him?
  • Is Eloise another Constant? Some kind of time/balance/force keeper? It feels like the Eloise we saw in ‘Flashes Before Your Eyes’ is the same one, thoughts, consciousness and all, that we’re seeing in this episode
  • “Ready for what?!” Why can’t he see the list?
  • Are the other flash sideways losties going to experience visions of their alternate lives, like Charlie, Desmond and Faraday? Or will they not experience them because they were on The Island at the time of the nuke detonation?
  • Seems like Widmore pretty much re-created The Swan failsafe event, allowing Desmond’s consciousness to become dislodged again
  • Whatever Eloise thought Desmond wasn’t ready for with seeing that list, it looks like he’s going to do the same thing with the losties after he gets that manifest

LOST – The Package [spoilers, duh]

Was this episode going to be anything but a disappointment compared to ‘Ab Aeterno’? Sadly, it lived up to its expectations.

Thoughts:

  • “The only way we can leave The Island, is if all the names that haven’t been crossed off, go together” Is this just BS by MiB, or does he actually not need to kill them?
  • The Sickness leads to your emotions disappearing?
  • Why aren’t they married in the sideways? It’s freaking me out more and more that nearly all of the original Oceanic 815 losties ended up on that plane in the Flash Sideways only to not crash on The Island, when seemingly, the only reason they were on that plane in the first place was because Jacob wanted them on there, to crash on The Island
  • Does the fact that Jin seemed to make it extremely clear that he was a Kwon and Sun was a Paik influence on-island events, re: the Kwon candidate?
  • And there we go again, with the frakn long stare into the mirror by Sun. I’m going to screenshot every one of these from the season soon.
  • Room 23!
  • Why are Zoe and co. looking for the pockets of energy? Is that how they’re going to destroy MiB? Or will there be another Frozen Donkey Wheel reset? Or maybe they’ll just destroy the thing.
  • Poor Mikhail, destiny’s a real bitch
  • “A wise man once said that war is coming to this island. I think it just got here” Is Flocke just playing back what Widmore told him, or did someone else actually say that?
  • What did Widmore’s team do while everyone was tranquilised?
  • Ok, The Package is a person, but again, not sure how Desmond comes into play >.< Maybe it’s the fact that he seemingly operates around the normal rules that apply on The Island

Damon Lindelof to LOST fans on the finale: “PLEASE DON’T SPOIL YOURSELF”

I listened to TheODI’s podcast / interview with Damon Lindelof just now, and that monologue in the last minute from Damon was absolutely amazing, and every LOST fan should listen to it! I’m going to transcribe it, because that’s how much I loved it. It will have a lot less impact without Damon saying it, but, /shrug

All I will say is, especially to people who gravitate towards spoilers, you might really really really be tempted to feel you deserve to know what the ending of the show is before you watch it on May 23. And the reason that you’re probably feeling that way is, because you DON’T trust us. Because, you feel like, “I need to protect myself in case i’m disappointed”. But i will say, that, YOU, have an opportunity that no one else is going to have after May 23 once DVDs come out and it’s out there in the world, which is, to honestly and actually be part of the final episode of the show, as its broadcast in many places around the world, simultaneously, so you’ll probably be watching the show, relatively the same time as another 20 million people, and I ask you as a favour to the show, not because you owe it, PLEASE DON’T SPOIL YOURSELF. Let yourself experience the ending of the show without knowing what’s going to happen. Please.

AMEN to that.

LOST – Ab Aeterno [spoilers, duh]

“Ab Aeterno”. Since the beginning of time. I googled it just now, and clearly others have been doing so recently.

Thoughts:

  • A LOT of mythology, and one ep that will take several viewings to understand properly
  • The Black Rock destroyed the four-toed statue!
  • If the Black Rock crashed onto The Island, what was that ship we [Jacob & MiB] saw at the end of Season 5?
  • Why did MiB “judge” Richard and let him go? Why does he “judge” people? Does he see them as potential successors? Did he see that Richard had killed someone and wanted him to kill Jacob. Why not use the captain that had just killed four others? Can he only use Jacob’s candidates?
  • “Don’t let him speak…if you do it’s already too late” sounds exactly like Dogen
  • “The Devil took my body” – MiB. What the?
  • The cork / wine bottle analogy was simple enough, and explained things well
  • WHO is Hurley talking to [when he’s talking to Isabella]? I’m going to say that he’s talking to the same thing that’s on-island Christian Shephard. I don’t think it was MiB [I’ve ranted before about how I think they’re two different people]. Surely MiB can’t be there, talking as “Isabella”, and also at the same time project that Smokey sound
  • Twas great seeing Titus Welliver again

LOST – Recon [spoilers, duh]

I’m frankly shocked by the reaction over at DarkUFO to this week’s ep; it’s my favourite of the season.

Thoughts:

  • Sawyer as a cop, ey? There is some event that is acting like a tipping point for all the losties in these flash sideways. Is it the NON-involvement of Jacob, due to him being dead at the time of the “reset”?
  • “LaFleur” ?! Surely not a coincidence…
  • Pierre Chang works at a museum!
  • “They think they’re protecting The Island from me when all I want to do is leave” – Flocke. Still don’t understand the endgame
  • Flocke sounded exactly like Ben re: recon instructions
  • Take THAT, Claire! *cheers at Flocke*
  • Who told The Others to build that runway? Was it MiB, so he could return as Flocke and have the plane land on something so that it could be used to get off The Island, or Jacob, so the candidates could return?
  • Ok, ANOTHER LONG STARE into a mirror by the character involved in the main flash sideways story? Answering why this is happening will probably answer why the two timelines exist
  • MiB has mommy issues. A “crazy mother” like Aaron has. Was MiB was born here?
  • What’s behind that padlocked door? Aaron? Desmond? Bring-back-Jacob-to-life kit?
  • So is Widmore on Jacob’s side, since he wants to kill MiB?
  • Damon and Carlton must have heard about Azaria Chamberlain and replaced “Dingo” with “The Others” re: Claire

LOST – Dr. Linus [spoilers, duh]

Thoughts:

  • Locke to Ben [off-island] : “Just sounds like you care about this place. And if the man in charge doesn’t, maybe it’s time for a change” Parallels much? Does Jacob actually care about The Island?
  • Ben and his dad still went to The Island as part of The Dharma Initiative! But why the hell did they leave…?
  • “Only six [candidates] left”, says Ilana. Who are the fifth and sixth? I count Hurley, Jack, Jin and Sun. Locke, Sawyer and Sayid are lost causes, aren’t they?
  • Jack: “Where’d you come from?” .. Alpert: “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you” What is that supposed to mean?! He can’t take some kind of Smokey form, can he? Or is he always jumping through time?
  • Confirmed: Jacob gave Alpert his eternal life
  • Confirmed: Alpert came to The Island on the Black Rock
  • Whoever’s touched by Jacob can’t die? What about Locke, then?
  • I vaguely remember a scene in season 5 where Sun brings Alpert the photo of some of the losties in the 70’s and he says he watched them all die. That scene is now confusing me for some reason.
  • Widmore = 108? Does that mean Jacob wanted him back?
  • Still no Sawyer. Is he already at The Hydra?

LOST – Sundown [spoilers, duh]

Thoughts:

  • First impressions. Almost seems like this should’ve been aired consecutively with the next one as a two part episode
  • After The Cliffside Cave and The Lighthouse, this ep was relatively light on mythology
  • Where the hell is / what the frak happened to Sawyer?
  • MiB has Sayid, Sawyer and Claire. Possibly Kate, considering where she ended up at the end of the ep
  • Jacob has Hurley… and Jack?
  • What’s the deal with what / who can keep Smokey out? I thought it was the ash, but I doubt there was any surrounding The Temple, and it was instead Dogen.
  • Do Jacob and MiB have certain parts of The Island they can inhabit?
  • MiB is now “free”, so why’s he taking people along for the ride? Does he need another proxy [living], to leave The Island? Or is he just plain evil? That killing spree at The Temple did seem excessive.
  • What’s MiB going to do with all those suckers people?
  • Keamy makes some mean eggs
  • MiB details confirmed: takes the form of someone dead [on-island]  that you know
  • Would Sayid actually have killed him if he didn’t let Flocke blurt out that greeting?
  • I don’t get why Lapidus is there
  • What are the chances we’ll get an Ilana backstory, because she sure as hell knows a lot?

LOST – On-Island Christian Shephard != Smokey/Flocke

This thought has been whirling around in my mind ever since I re-watched seasons 4 & 5 of LOST, and last week’s ep [Lighthouse] seemingly added another layer of affirmation. Since I wrote out my theory in a rant-worthy fashion on Google Buzz, during a discussion with @snarkle, I thought I may as well regurgitate it here.

Note: Smokey = Smoke Monster = MiB = Fake Locke = Flocke

Jacob’s Cabin/Circle of ash 
The cicle of ash around Jacob’s Cabin is an anti-Smokey mechanism. So, if Smokey’s roaming around the island, the on-island Christian Shephard inside that cabin John Locke sees surely cannot be Smokey. 

Claire/Lighthouse

Two quotes from “Lighthouse” sum things up, where Claire seems to make a clear distinction between her father [on-island Christian Shephard] and her friend.

“First my father told me, and then my friend told me” – Claire, when explaining to Jin how she’s so sure The Others have her baby

“That’s not John. This is my friend” – Claire, at the end of the episode when Flocke walks into her camp

What ruins the theory

There’s just one scene that’s stuck with me that ruins this theory. In “Something Nice Back Home”, Jack, working at St. Sebastian hospital hears the smoke alarm beeping and then sees Christian Shephard. At the time, that smoke alarm going off meant only one thing to me, which sort of ruins the theory that they’re separate entities. Unless… there are two Smoke Monsters…

Smokey Candidates

If the two are separate entites, what does it mean? It’s only fair that if Jacob has his candidates, Smokey should be allowed to have some of his own too. Is this what Christian Shephard and Claire Littleton are?

We haven’t seen Claire doing too much for Smokey, but Christian certainly has:

  • Led Claire away from Aaron [to Smokey?]
  • Seen sitting with Claire in Jacob’s Cabin
  • Crucial in making John Locke believe he had to sacrifice himself, off-island, which I believe was needed for Smokey to take his form when he returned in the coffin
  • Told Sun to wait for John Locke [who was Flocke at this point]

UPDATE:

In retrospect, all I needed to say was, Smokey cannot leave The Island. Jack seeing Christian Shephard in “Something Nice Back Home” either disproves this fact [of which a 0% chance exists], or this is a plot hole.

LOST – Lighthouse [spoilers, duh]

Dear god, questions, questions and more questions.

Thoughts:

  • What’s up with the scars/bruises you can’t quite remember, Doc?
  • Was Jacob pouring his own ashes into the pool? Pre-emptive measure against Smokey going for a swim [I assume that’s who’ll be visiting The Temple]?
  • “Clairousseau” sounds about right
  • Adam and Eve still there at least, and Hurley echoing what many people have already theorised
  • Best. Lighthouse. Ever.
  • That’s one impressive mirror right there! Jacob’s “Looking-Glass“? Nice cross-promotion with Alice in Wonderland coming out next week
  • The Numbers! Again! Looks like only 360 numbers can fit on that thing, with quite a few names being crossed out already
  • I swear Kate is Number 51

LOST – The Substitute [spoilers, duh]

That was mythology overload, right there.

Thoughts:

  • “What are the odds of you running into a spinal surgeon?” Sounds a lot like Ben Linus of season 3 to me, and very fresh in my mind after my LOST marathon. On that note, there is just so much duality i’m starting to pick up
  • Smokey cam is awesome! I propose a Smokey vs Cloverfield movie
  • Jacob brought them to The Island. He went to them when they were young and/or vulnerable, and manipulated them into making “choices”. They are brought to The Island as potential “candidates”, chosen to protect The Island. Well, that’s what the MiB says anyway. 
  • Was that a kid Jacob that MiB saw?
  • The MiB is also “trapped”, and I guess Sawyer’s his way out
  • Why’s MiB stuck as Locke forever now? Something to do with killing Jacob?
  • *MiB throws the white stone into the ocean* “inside joke” !
  • Very sad to see flash sideways John Locke losing all faith and resigned to his wheelchair existence. “Don’t tell me what I can’t do” is no longer his catchcry it seems
  • Where’s Kate’s number?! HT @marawlings
